Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff would be the largest player in history to have won the Ballon d'Or award. Messi had twice won this award consecutively in 2009 and 2010.

This year, he re-nominated as a finalist for the third time winning the award. He competed with teammate Xavi Hernandez, and Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid. If Messi was re-elected as a winner, he aligned with three legends of football. Yes, so far only Cruyff, Michel Platini and Marco van Basten who is able to win the award three times.

"With a player like that, he was able to win even more. Maybe Messi will win five, six, or seven award."
